Match Report
St James Senior Boys' School Boys-U14A vs  Weydon School
On: Friday, 14 Jan 2022
Venue: Away

The U14’s went into this game having never played a competitive game of 15 a side rugby due to the pre-Christmas COVID restrictions. The boys have worked hard in training on expansive play and using the width of the pitch to their advantage. This certainly paid off against a physical Weydon side who Saints had lost to back when they were U12.

Weydon kicked off and Saints showed their intentions early with some excellent continuity. Early pressure was rewarded with an outside break from Swain leading to the game’s opening try. Conversion by Dale.

Weydon came back into the game and applied an extended period of pressure but the Saints defence held strong marshalled expertly by Claeys. As the Saints defensive line took a continuous battering, Reardon then managed to get his hands on the ball and glided to the try line for a vital score before half time. Conversion by Craig.

More of the same, were the halftime orders and Saints obliged with outstanding scores. First Moser, who had been imperious under the high ball all day, broke from 30 meters out and showed good pace to get to the line. Swain must have been licking his lips as the Weydon defence started to tire and helped himself to two additional tries. His third showed blistering pace from 50m out to cruise under the posts. Conversion Dale.

Although it was Saints’ first game of 15 a side rugby, it certainly did not show. The boys should be proud of not only the result, but more importantly the performance. It is certainly the best I have seen them play. Congratulations!

Saints 31- 0 Weydon
