Match Report
St James Senior Boys' School Boys-U13A vs  Ibstock Place School
On: Friday, 01 Feb 2019
Venue: Away

This years Friday Night Lights event was expanded to become a festival of Rugby with over 150 players taking part in 4 matches, building up to the First Xv’s Final game in the sacred Navy, Sky and Gold of St James.

The U12’s and U13’s were first to play against traditional rivals Ibstock Place. The first half of the U12 game was a tight affair with both teams having their share of both possession and the score. The second half was a different story with the Saints running rampant and scoring 8 unanswered tries to walk away with an easy win.
The U13 game was never in doubt. Relentless St James pressure was just too much for Ibstock and eventually the Saints had to take off all the top players, and play a man down to try and even up the contest but to no avail. Another St James victory, this time by a country mile.
The U14s were up next and this was going to be a much closer affair. In an exciting end-to-end game where both teams played exceptionally well, St James were on the wrong end of a 20-10 score line, perhaps lacking a little self belief when under pressure.
These games set the evening up nicely for the show case match of St James 1st XV vs ACS Cobham, who fielded a team of monstrous proportions.
However, St James have always played against teams who are bigger in stature than them and as a school we have developed a style of organised, flowing Rugby that creates and attacks space, perfect for a night like Friday Night. St James were simply dominant throughout and despite the close 22-17 score line, the result was never in doubt with the Saints sitting on a two score cushion throughout. Despite the sleet and wind, St James were determined to give the crowd a spectacle and they did this wonderfully, throwing the ball around when there was space and driving through the forwards when there was none. This was a complete performance and a fitting way for the year 13’s to sign off on their impressive St James careers.
