Match Report
St James Senior Boys' School Boys-U14A vs  ISA Regional Badminton
On: Thursday, 15 Nov 2018
Venue: Away

Badminton has long been one of our more popular Friday Options sports and this year we felt that the programme was ready to take its first steps into the competitive world. On Thursday this finally happened when we took an U14 and an U16 team to the ISA Regional Badminton Championships where Schools from as far a field as Bedford and Lea Valley congregated in Milton Keynes to fight it out for the right to go to the Nationals.

the U14s have only been playing Badminton at the school since September and this showed with the team making a slow start. However, as the day progressed we could see them grow in confidence and the matches became closer and closer with Oscar James and Connor Lagenberg taking several scalps. This was an excellent learning opportunity for the boys and they should be proud of their performance.

the U16 team was entirely made up of U15 players due to the year 11s not being available due to their GCSE mocks. Taking this into account, this was a remarkable performance. The first round against Sherrardswood was won 4 matches to 1 and the second round was much closer than it should have been against the Badminton specialist School Webber School who had 3 internationals in their ranks.

Their performance in the group stages put them into a bronze medal play off match against Rushmoor School from Bedford. This match went right to the wire with the score tied at 2 matches each. A thrilling final doubles match finished with just a handful of points separating the teams, unfortunately with St James on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Fourth place at their first tournament against players a full year older than them is something to be proud of.
